One the many designers who have inspired me is Edith Head. She had a long career in Hollywood and won eight Academy Awards—more Oscars than any other woman. She was such an amazing designer, and I especially love her movie costume sketches. These drawings are wonderful – they combine art and fashion and evoke the roles the actor/actress was going to play. They are also documents that convey the creativity plus the fabric samples and the designated scene. She was a favorite designer for many of the leading female stars of the 1940s and 1950s: Ginger Rodgers, Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Shirley MacClaine, Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor, and Natalie Wood.
