Escape to New York, the festival of live music, performance art, crafts, culinary delights and more that’s sparking entertainment and imagination at the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton, welcomed Patti Smith to the stage last night.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer closed the first night of the three-day Escape2NY party in vintage style, performing “Ghost Dance,” “Because the Night” (which she co-wrote with Bruce Springsteen, you’ll recall) and even reciting Allen Ginsberg’s Beat classic “Howl” to the crowd. That’s some way to kick off the weekend, and the live music continues today with Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, White Rabbits, The Vaccines, Au Revoir Simone, The Submarines, Graffiti6 and The Psychedelic Furs. Pretty in Pink, anyone?
