Alec Baldwin Thrown Off Airplane

Okay, Mr. Baldwin, what were you thinking here?

Alec Baldwin was kicked off an American Airlines flight Tuesday after he refused to turn off his cell phone at Los Angeles International Airport because he was in the middle of playing a game called “Words With Friends.” Words With Friends, in case anybody doesn’t know, is essentially an online Scrabble game.

Baldwin wrote on his Twitter account: “Flight attendant on American [Airlines] reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving.”

This was followed with more Tweets, including: ”Now on the 3 o’clock American flight. The flight attendants already look…..smarter” and ”Last flight w/American. Where retired Catholic school gym teachers from the 1950′s find jobs as flight attendants.”

In a statement that seems like pretty nice bit of press for the aforementioned word game, Baldwin’s spokesman, Matthew Hiltzik, said, “Alec was asked to leave the flight for playing ‘Words with Friends‘ while parked at the gate. He loves WWF so much that he was willing to leave a plane for it, but he has already boarded another AA flight.”

Alec! You’re a Hamptons hero and we love all the good you do for the community here, but everybody knows that you have to have done something fairly egregious to be thrown off of an airplane. If a flight crew member tells you to put your seat up, YOU PUT YOUR SEAT UP! And if you are supposed to get off your cell phone, YOU DO THAT, TOO. You were on your way home from being honored at an event for the People For the American Way Foundation on Monday night—it’s a shame people aren’t buzzing about that news instead.

Besides striking out at the Los Angeles International Airport, Alec Baldwin
stuck out at the Artists & Writers 61st Annual Charity Softball Game in 2009.
The Bill Clinton impeachment trials ? That was strike one. Late Night with Conan O’Brien (in 1993)

    Sad… very sad.

David, your father seems friendly with Alec; see if he can snag an interview with him about this incident. Would love to know what he was thinking as well, because he doesn’t strike me as the uncooperative ego-maniac type. He may be rough on Conservatives, but I never got the impression he was rough on the general populace.

I think Baldwin screwed up here. You can’t screw around on an airplane. The lady that told him to turn off his phone was just doing her job and he acted pretty immature. I hope his friends that are close to him are letting him know that he was wrong on this and they aren’t enabling him. I agree on the fact that he’s not this ego-maniac, but he was WAY to sensitive about being told to turn off his phone. Everybody knows you have to turn off electronic devices when you take off and land.
