Saturday night in Sag Harbor, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it so busy. The Sag Harbor fireworks drew thousands of people. The entire town was packed, I didn’t see a single restaurant that was full. I even went to check out the American Legion after see if I could squeeze quickly for a bite at Muse or Sen, but it was all just crazy busy.
My girlfriend, who has a gallery one Main Street called the Monika Olko Gallery, had just finished up an art opening, and we were looking for some food and a place to watch the fireworks go off.
We called up Conco Doro’s, which I’m sorry, but I have to give it to them, they have the best pizza in the Hamptons, and ordered three pies for about ten people, and our group headed out.
The entire time I was thinking to myself, This will be great, I’ll write about this for the Dan’s Daily, and I’ll shoot some pictures of the fireworks.
Well, that didn’t exactly work.
The fireworks were great, really great, but I couldn’t get one good shot of them. Every picture of the fireworks I took was God awful. (Cameras even have a fireworks setting, which is completely useless.)
Regardless, it was an insanely good event for Sag Harbor. I can’t believe how much that town has turned around since I was a kid. Twenty years ago, you didn’t even know what Sag Harbor was.
Amazing.
So far, this summer has been epic.

David – you’re too cute you crack me up. 20 years ago Sag Harbor was amazing- not as crowed granted as it is now (what was?) but just as much fun and still pretty damn busy. How could you have known? You were what? under 10 years old (If we are to believe that twenty something header on your column). I on the other hand was living on Main Street (my last year there) and having a totally awesome time hanging out at all the bars, going to concerts, enjoying Bay Street Theater’s first summer, and lamenting how crowded Sag Harbor had become since I’d first moved there 8 years prior. It’s all perspective, my dear. I’m thrilled you’ve “found” Sag Harbor, now how about getting a Whale Boat Team together for the HarborFest in September??
