The Wall Street Journal has recently quoted Hamptons resident Alec Baldwin in regards to a wind turbine he wishes to build on his propery.
“I want to build something that is environmentally forward-thinking,” he said. “I’m not building a satellite dish so I can watch the Knicks game,” Baldwin says.
Mr. Baldwin’s turbine is expected to cost $97,050, but that price will be offset by an anticipated $38,185 rebate from LIPA and a $17,660 federal tax credit, according to GreenLogic, a renewable energy company that prepared Mr. Baldwin’s application. LIPA has subsidized “backyard” wind turbines since 2009.
Do you think Alec Baldwin should get a wind turbine?

Hmm…They marry in a very old fashioned venue, and then plan to power a home with some 24/7 sustainable power. They are showing wisdom and community mindedness, by helping sustainable power fit in too.
Windmills are a huge part of the history of the hamptons and there is great reason for this: we have great wind resouces. You can see windmills in the middle of several towns (watermill, east hampton) as signs of the historic nature of these devices. Now we no longer need them to mill grains but we need them instead to provide the vast amounts of power we consume on the east end. They are beautiful and as people become familiar with them, they will surely find them to be a good addition.
This is a very good site for a turbine and we applaud Alec for taking on this issue and we plan on doing everything we can to help him get this approved.
Wait! Alec Baldwin is getting $56,000 – 60% of the cost – paid for by taxpayers and the rest of us LIPA ratepayers. (I think there are still more subsidies he can get). Doesn’t anyone understand that the amount of power this thing will generate is not nearly worth the investment (you think maintenance on this thing is cheap)? The only way it makes any sense is if someone else pays for it!
A good site? Well, it’s an eyesore to some people, but it’s also a status symbol. Look at me! I’m Mr. Sustainable! With YOUR money. Please.
status symbol
From P Ditty Combs, to Alec Baldwin, from Howard Stern, to dirty mouth
Robin Williams. From Madonna to Obama… When you walk into a
bathroom just after one of these ” celebrities ” walk out, you will find they
make the bathroom smelly just like everybody else. This is a status symbol we all have.
To view celebrities like they are some kind of saviours to mankind is a false viewpoint in my opinion .
Take a good look at what our country has become. Many of these
celebrities ( not all ) are part of the downfall of America… anything to make a
buck and stay on top. Much of our entertainment is character
degenerating. Our young people are losing their personal identities of
self hood. Their freedoms have been altered to abuse self and those around
them. Common sense and the norm of decency is being lost. In the movie
Batman Returns… what was the name of that city ? Well… we’re not there yet.
What has kept America strong is the protection of being surround by
water and the fridgid North. Our Armed Forces ( or is it a Mercenary Force today – guns for hire ) said to be the strongest on earth, if so, why were we invaded by Mexico and other countries ? The invasion of Chinese junk, toxic boom speakers manufactured by corrupt companies from within. Yes, and also, invaded by an empty work environment from the lost of jobs by corrupt corporations,… yes, anything to make a buck. America’s young people… look what is being done to them… Remember that song God is watching us… Yes, our Creator is, from a distance.
