Good food, great drinks and an awesome atmosphere – all qualities that make Margarita Grille in Westhampton a favored staple in the Hamptons community. With 13 years of service under its belt, Margarita Grille is definitely doing something right, and I was excited to see just what that “something right” was – and I wasn’t disappointed.
After we were seated – on the large outdoor patio, of course – our friendly server Lindsay brought us the Margarita Grille nachos with salsa – the south of the border version of a bread basket. The chips were fresh and warm – yum! – and the salsa was tangy and spicy and just a little crunchy.
To drink we ordered Margaritas, of course. I opted for the Pomegranate Margarita, and my dining pal ordered the Strawberry Margarita. Both were (almost) too pretty to drink, mine looking like cotton candy, and my pal’s looking like the ripest of the season’s strawberries.
For our appetizers, I did a little research and asked a couple friends about Margarita” Grille and everyone said I had to try their nachos, so I did – with some chili con carne on the side. Out came a towering pile of steaming nachos topped with melted cheddar and jack cheeses, jalapeños, black olives, and on top – the cutest little taco shell bowl, filled with sour cream and the Grille’s signature guacamole. The perfect bite was easy (if messy) to construct – chip, cheese, olive, pepper, sour cream, guacamole, and a huge dunk of chili con carne. Messy…yes, but worth every savory, spicy, crunchy, eye-closing, “mmhhmm” minute of it. Try the nachos, foodie friends.
As we continued to sip (or in some cases, gulp) our margaritas – at this point we had to try the Grille’s original margarita, to report back that it is just as tasty as their spin-offs – our dinner arrived. My dining companions and I tried a few different entrees. One tried the Caesar salad with grilled shrimp, complete with cornbread croutons, which I heard were pretty fantastic (washed down with an awesome Margarita Grille Mojito that didn’t last very long). Dining companion # 2 tried a Margarita Grille burger, which was big, meaty and juicy – everything you need a burger to be. We traveled south of the border next and tried a filet mignon quesadilla, which was warm and gooey (and huge!), crisp from the flattop grill and the filet was tender, pairing perfectly with the fresh guacamole (that I could have eaten with just a spoon, thank you). One menu item in particular caught my mind, and our server Lindsey told me it was a house favorite, so there you go I had to try it then – Red, White, and Blue tacos. With such a patriotic name, who could resist? Two layers of tacos, one a corn tortilla, one a blue corn tortilla, were held together by some guacamole glue and inside were delectable fried rock shrimp, crispy red cabbage, queso Fresco, and topped with salsa rojo. It was the most unique and delicious taco I’ve ever eaten, and the contrast of the crispy, warm shrimp with the firm, refreshing veggies and some heat from the salsa – it all made for a stellar taco, one that I’m sure I will be back for.
