This Weekend in the Hamptons: Holidays and Handel’s “Messiah”

Holiday season is officially in full swing on the East End. Here our five favorite weekend events, from tree-trimming parties to live performances of Handel’s Messiah, to keep you feeling festive.

Art Opening: Charles Henry Miller

Friday, December 2, 6–8 p.m.  Suffolk County Historical Society, 300 West Main Street, Riverhead

The Suffolk County Historical Society presents an opening reception for the new exhibit “Charles Henry Miller: Painter of Long Island.” Curated by Geoffrey K. Fleming, Director of the Southold Historical Society, the new exhibit will feature paintings, sketchbooks and other historical memorabilia relating to the life and career of noted Long Island painter Charles Henry Miller, N.A. (1842-1922). The exhibit will be on view through February 11, 2012.

Holiday Open House at Quogue Wildlife Refuge

Saturday, December 3, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Quogue Wildlife Refuge, 3 Old Country Road, Quogue

It’s a Holiday Tree Trimming party at the Refuge! The fire will be so delightful as everyone enjoys story time, hot chocolate, refreshments and live holiday music, while kids can make an ornament for the Refuge tree or to take home.

Crossroads Music Presents On the Air @ Guild Hall

Mamalee Rose & Friends, Inda Eaton, The Third Estate, Rashid Lanie, BrainCake, Susan Gabriel, Robert Bruey, Martha Mooke, Daisy Jopling, Escola D’Boom, InCircles, Joe Delia & the Thieves, Dalton Portella, LoLa, Maria Fairchild, Michael Weiskopf, and the House Band: Mick Hargreaves, Klyph Black, Randolph Hudson III, Tali “Icepack” Jackson, Joe Delia, James Benard and Anthony Liberatore are set to perform as Grammy-winner Cynthia Daniels records the live performance for a show to air on her radio program, Monk Music Radio,  WPPB 88.3 FM and WEER 88.7 FM. Choral Society of the Hamptons Christmas Concert 

Sunday, December 4, 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m Bridgehampton Presbyterian Church, 2429 Montauk Highway Bridgehampton

The Choral Society of the Hamptons and South Fork Chamber Ensemble will present Handel’s “Messiah” in two concerts (a benefit brunch before the first concert will be held at Pierre’s restaurant in Bridgehampton at 12:30 p.m.). December Wildlife on Dune Road
