On the Hamptons real estate news front, Cape Advisors has announced that they are currently in contract to buy the Chequit Inn on Shelter Island and turn it into a chic and swanky new resort hotel. The deal is expected to be a $10 million project, according to the New York Post.
The announcement includes brief details about a complete renovation of the rooms at Chequit, a brand new pool and a new restaurant as well.
With an updated Chequit joining the Andres Balazs hot spot Sunset Beach in that cozy rock between the forks, will Shelter Island transform into a New York hot spot and wind up with more hotels following in the footsteps of the newly chic resorts in Montauk?

Wonder if the new owners are going to keep that old classic Jukebox that was by the bar area ? Frenchy, the bar tender, ( year 1985 ) added one of my 45rpm records, of the Ferry Boat to Shelter Island song, in the selections. One of the top ten hit tunes that year… Well… on Shelter Island it was:) Yes, a very memorable year. I even got married, on the Ferry Boat to Shelter Island. Yes your right, Cliffard Clark , the boat Captain, was my best man.
A wonderful, wonderful place , Shelter Island was at that time. But today, just too many ” Wild Turkeys ” running around:) Where did they come from any way ? Fly over from the Hamptons ? O’well.
I’am sure many people are going to miss the old Chequit Inn. Our fond memories will always be there and appreciation for your service to the community and friendships.
Cape Advisors has really nice hotels – stylish but comfortable at the same time. I have stayed at their hotels in Cape May (Congress Hall and the Virginia Hotel) and the Chelsea in AC. They also built the Mondrian in Soho. I am definitely going to check out the Shelter Island hotel.
