School’s Out!

Well, okay…I realize school may not be officially over just yet… But, for The Harvey Milk High students, School is Out this Saturday, June 11 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.!  The Hetrick-Martin Institute will hold its 12th annual School’s Out event at the East Hampton estate of Peter Wilson and Scott Sanders. Event chairs are Bobby Graham, Matthew Kelleher and Brendan Monaghan. The Host Committee includes Giorgio Armani, Andy Cohen and Robert Zimmerman.  Proceeds will provide 1,500 GLBTQ young people in the tri-state area with year-round support services including hot meals and a safe environment for students to achieve a high scholarly performance.  You can purchase pre-event tickets for $250 at HMI.Org or you can buy at the door for $300.

The HMI celebration will continue on Sunday night, thanks to “Schools Out” board member, Fashion Editor and Stylist to the Stars, Tim Bitici who is about to go old school on the Hamptons Club Scene.  Ever since the legendary Swamp Club in Wainscott was transformed into the now defunct, Star Room the gay crowd in the Hamptons has complained over the years, “there is nowhere fun to go and just dance!”  The Swamp had been a fixture out East from1977 to 2001, hosting parties that attracted famous Hamptonites including Calvin Klein, David Geffen, Sandy Gallin, and Barry Diller.  Bitici is determined to put the fun back into the Hamptons nightlife and told me, “I used to love going to the Swamp “Tea Dance” on Sundays and there hasn’t been anything like it since.  It’s time we bring back a fun party that’s for everyone and not at all cheesy or pretentious.”  With a glimmer of hope in his eyes, Bitici is the force behind what he hopes will be a Sunday night must-attend trend, the new gay night, “Sand Sundays” at Axe Lounge in Southampton.  Tim is quick to mention, “There is no gay label.  Everyone is welcome! Straight ladies can expect to have a ton of fun without a stuffy vibe.”  This is just a fun alternative thing to do on a Sunday night.”  The festivities will launch at 5 p.m.  DJ Karin Ward will get the party started and at 9 p.m. Chris Baker will perform his global hit “Echo” live.  Bitici revealed his dream guest list this summer would include Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen, Calvin Klein and Steven Klein.   Bitici is hoping for, “a mix of fashion people, Montauk surfers, business people, creative people.  A spot where people can let loose and enjoy themselves.   It’s for people that don’t want to do the Saturday night crush and go back to the city on Monday.”  Speaking of fashion, Tim says the dress code is, “beach chic.”  You can just throw on your dancin’ shoes and help kick off the first “Sand Sundays” dance party of the season!  Sand Sundays board include Peter Som, Joe Zee, Kelly Klein, Lori Goldstein, Robert Fowler, Edward Jamele, Zeke Thomas and Tom Handley is asking for a suggested donation of $20 dollars at the door that will benefit The Hetrick-Martin Institute.
