C+ Grade for Long Island Sound: The Connecticut Fund for the Environment’s first-ever State of the Sound report gave an overall grade of C+ for Connecticut and New York efforts to protect and preserve Long Island Sound. The report grades the quality of Long Island Sound based on the following eight indicators: coastal habitat, beach litter, migratory habitat, low oxygen (hypoxia), raw sewage, storm-water runoff, toxic chemicals and stewardship.
