Temple Israel of Riverhead

Temple Israel of Riverhead is a small, warm, and friendly synagogue located in Riverhead NY. The congregation of 80 member families serves as a religious center for the Conservative Jewish community on the East End and is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Our membership is drawn from Eastern Long Island, from Rocky Point and Coram to the west, and the North and South Forks to the east.  Everyone is encouraged to participate according to his or her ability.  It is impossible to attend our services and not enjoy the warmth of our Temple family and the sincerity of our worship. Our congregation is 100 years old, and we recently celebrated our 100th anniversary. The Sanctuary comfortably seats 140 people, and has been newly renovated.

We are a small, but full service synagogue with a full time rabbi, religious school and adult education programs.  We have High Holiday Services and other holiday events, such as a Community Passover Seder, Shabbat dinners & weekly kiddush luncheons.  There is a monthly “Tot Shabbat” program, a teen group, and speaker programs.  We are open for business every Friday night and Saturday morning, and every holiday.  No one that enters our building is a stranger for very long, as we will welcome you with warmth and friendship and encourage you to join us as often as possible, to take advantage of all that we have to offer.

Our rabbi, Rabbi Bill Siemers resides in Riverhead with his family, and is involved in many local institutions, including the East End Jewish Community Council, the Riverhead Clergy Council, and the Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Temple Israel of Riverhead was incorporated in 1911 as the “Brotherhood of Jews of Riverhead” by twelve members of the Riverhead Jewish community. In 1943, the name of the congregation was changed to Temple Israel of Riverhead. In 1945, the Temple purchased the lot on which the current building stands, and dedicated this building in 1947 to “The Glory of God and the Brotherhood of Man”, a motto which appears above the Temple’s main entrance doors.

5:30 pm  followed by Shabbat Dinner (11/11/11- 3/9/12)

7:00 pm (3/16/12- 11/3/12)

Saturday morning services:

9:30 am followed by a kiddush luncheon.
