The Montauk Artists’ Association was started as an effort to broaden an already existing art talent in Montauk and to bring to all artists, both professional and amateur, an avenue by which they could enjoy group art activites, receive art instruction and show their work.
Originally, classes were offered in the evening, twice a year. Attendance was excellent and the students who attended these programs became the original members of the Association.
In 1998, the Association acquired the Long Island Railroad’s Montauk Station. The Depot Art Gallery and Art School are in this building. The Art School offers free children’s classes and adult classes and workshops at nominal fees. The Gallery features 11 – day shows with groups of Members, from Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day.
The Association is an inclusive organization and welcomes all who are interested in the arts. Artists’ Receptions are held the first Saturday of every show and everyone is welcome to attend. |
