Does anyone rave about the food at the Hotel anymore? Not that I’ve heard but it doesn’t matter. This staple of Hampton’s elegant hot spots can rest on it’s laurels for a long time. The food is always good, sometimes very good and the bill is always a bit more than you had imagines and sometimes a real shock. Still there are specials (dinner and a movie with Bay Street a winter favorite) and there’s always the choice of just hanging at the bar for a bit and eating bowls of those fabulous salted nuts. The staff is impeccable, the surroundings comfy – like a weekend at your British uncle’s hunting lodge a few hours outside of London. In the summer it is certainly a see and be seen and a pretty high class pick up joint by about 2am. Most of all it’s the American Hotel and a chance to sit under the moose on a cold winter’s day for lunch or out on the porch when the warmth of May has just begun to waft down Sag Harbor’s Main Street are opportunities not to be missed.
