Celebrate the
24th National AFRICAN AMERICAN Read-In
Canio’s Cultural Cafe and the John Jermain Memorial Library host the 24th National African American Read-In at Canio’s Books, Saturday, February 23 at 5 p.m. The Read-In is sponsored by the National Council of Teachers of English. Celebrate our rich literary history, and read a favorite selection of poetry, fiction, or non-fiction by an African American writer. You are welcome to come and just listen, too! Bring a friend and enjoy the celebration!
Hard to choose! There’s always the classic writers like James Baldwin, Zora Neale Hurston, Ralph Ellison, or contemporary wordsmiths like Sonia Sanchez or Toni Morrison. Of course it also makes sense to consider a Sag Harbor writer, perhaps William Demby or Colson Whitehead. Pick a poem, find a fiction passage, come and listen to great works by great American writers. A simple reception follows.
For information call Canio’s at 725-4926 or the Library at 725-0049.
