Center Stage at the Southampton Cultural Center will hold open auditions for performances of Tina Andrews’ new play “BUCKINGHAM” on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 1PM and Sunday, January 6, 2013 at 1PM at the Southampton Cultural Center at 25 Pond Lane, Southampton, NY.
Rehearsals begin January 19th. Performances begin February 1, 2013 and run through February 10, 2013. Tina Andrews directs. BUCKINGHAM is written by award-winning writer, director and producer Tina Andrews (Warner Bros. “Why Do Fools Fall In Love”; the CBS miniseries, “Sally Hemings An American Scandal”).
The play takes place in 1760 and dramatizes the aristocratic intrigue, ethnic scandal, and family dysfunction in the life of Germany’s Princess Charlotte Sophia who was forced to hide her Moorish features and skin tone under heavy white Elizabethan make-up in order to marry Britain’s “mad” King George III. Since they married “By Proxy”, the king did not discover her true ethnicity until their wedding night.
Based on meticulous research coupled with her acclaimed penchant for connecting dramatic dots, the play was a sizzler in its debut at the Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica, CA. Andrews adapted it from her novel: “Charlotte Sophia: Myths, Madness and the Moor” which will also be sold at the Center.
