10:00 am - 05:00 pm
Gallery North, 90 North Country Rd, Setauket, NY. 11733.

Opening Reception: Friday, March 22nd, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Gallery North is pleased to present Elementary, an exhibition which brings together the work of three accomplished artists: Nobuho Nagasawa, Mel Pekarsky and Howardena Pindell. Each of these artists is a member of the Art Department of Stony Brook University on Long Island.

Inspired by an intimate relationship with nature, Mel Pekarsky creates representational and abstract imagery that visually describes his passion for the desert landscape he visits periodically.

Nobuho Nagasawa creates interactive projects which emphasize natural elements, biological elements and a conceptual framework with a focus on forms, functionality, materials and culture. For the past ten years she has concentrated on materials and their sensory properties, in natural phenomena, and human perception.

In addition to her larger work addressing the issues of racism, feminism, violence, slavery and exploitation, Howardena Pindell has developed mixed media work designed by arranging in a planned or randomly distributed placement, three-dimensional circular confetti-like discs.

You can hear the artists speak about their work on April 3rd 2013 as a part of our ArtTalk@GalleryNorth series. This event is free to the public.
