Nutcracker at the Staller Center for the Arts

02:00 pm
Staller Center, St. James,

The Seiskaya Ballet’s Nutcracker has become a perennial holiday favorite. This year’s staging of the Nutcracker is scheduled for six performances from December 14 to 17, at Stony Brook University’s Staller Center for the Arts.

This classical ballet rendition has earned praise from critics and audiences alike. Newsday called the production, “ENCHANTING,” “Polished,” “…child friendly – a storyteller’s Nutcracker…” And in another Newsday article the reviewer gushed: “…lavish… and …sumptuous…” Other reviewers proclaimed it: “…glorious… Dazzling….extraordinary…” The cast will be led by guest artist Cory Stearns (Cavalier), a principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre. He will partner three outstanding Sugar Plums: guest artist Elizabeth McGrath, 1st soloist with Ballet West, and Seiskaya Ballet’s award winning principal dancers Anna Craddock and Alexandra Palma. The cast of nearly 100 will also include featured soloists Alexandra Tsivitis, Kristina Diaz, Mac Gershfield and Danielle Lovetro.

“What makes the 2012 Nutcracker so exciting is that both Cory and Elizabeth were trained at Seiskaya Ballet,” according to Artistic Director Valia Seiskaya. “They graduated a couple of years apart so they never had the chance to partner together. They are both enjoying stellar professional careers which makes this paring very special. Not only are they looking forward to this homecoming; we are as well.”

Seiskaya Ballet’s Nutcracker has earned rave review. Judith H. Bernstein of Newsday headlined her Seiskaya Nutcracker review, “A Delicious Holiday Confection for Young and Old.” Reviewer Michelle Isabelle-Stark entitled a review “Seiskaya’s Nutcracker Is Dazzling and Breathtaking.” And the NY Times succinctly described the production as “lavish.” The Seiskaya Ballet’s Nutcracker is considered Long Island’s premiere Nutcracker production.
