East Hampton’s Walking Dunes in Hither Hills State Park is a diverse trail system, which meanders through pine/oak forests, dunes, a freshwater bog, and along Napeague Bay beach. In the summer, it is a very lush, productive habitat where many animals can hide. In the winter, many of the plants have died or lost their leaves. This allows us to see much farther into the forested areas to look for birds, animal signs, and last season’s bird nests. Along the beach, we will look for shells washed up by the winter waves. Cold wind and a sandy, one-mile trail make this a medium level walk and is recommended for adults and families with children older than 6 years of age.

Reservations are required for all events. Participants must call (631) 537-9735 for reservations and information about meeting places.
