Hanukah begins at sundown on Saturday – December 8, when the first of eight candles will be lit. Another is added each successive night until all are lighted. Hanukah (also known as The Festival of Lights) commemorates the rededication of the Second Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt of the 2nd century BCE. . Guests are invited to bring their own Menorahs to be lighted during the event.
A new feature this year is a Latke Cook-Off! The maker of the tastiest latke (potato pancake) will receive a prize. Also, new this year, the Temple has been selling Hanukah candles with some of the proceeds going to children in our community in need of winter clothing.
