The 3rd Annual Joshua Levine Memorial Dinner
06:00 pm
American Hotel, Sag Harbor,
The 3rd Annual Joshua Levine Memorial Dinner is scheduled for Sunday, March 24, 2013. Once again, Bay Street Theater in Sag Harbor has generously donated space in the theater for the pre-dinner cocktail party, and The American Hotel has donated its restaurant for the dinner. All the wonderful food and wine is donated by the area’s local farms, vineyards, and merchants. The event, which sold out the past two years, is sponsored and organized under the auspices and leadership of Slow Food East End in cooperation with the Joshua Levine Memorial Foundation (JLMF).
Our son, Joshua, was committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle and was a beloved member of the East End community. Your support of this event is greatly appreciated. It provides sustenance to Josh’s passions and mission, which centered on the education and wellness of children.
Last year’s dinner was an amazing culinary experience and a huge financial success. Approximately $18,000 was raised and was used to fund stipends to three master farmers to work with sixteen East End schools which are members of the Edible School Garden Group. The schools now have a curriculum which integrates what children experience working in the garden with other subjects. The Edible School Garden programs have been very successful, and now there are twenty East End schools with gardens and/or greenhouses.
Some of the money raised last year was also used to fund projects at many of these school gardens. JLMF awarded ten $500 grants for garden supplies and materials through grant applications submitted to Slow Food East End. For more information on the foundation and how your support and participation in this wonderful event can benefit the lives of children on the East End of Long Island, go to facebook.com/JoshuaLevineMemorialFoundation. Some of the comments from families involved in the program are truly inspirational.
Because everything for the dinner — the venue, food, wine, everything — is donated, it is a great help to all involved if we have a good reservation count as early as possible. If you can attend the dinner, cocktail party, or both, please make your reservation as soon as possible. If you cannot attend and you would like to support the Edible School Garden program, please make a tax deductible donation. To make your reservation, go to www.joshualevinefoundation.org , click on the “donate tab” and enter the pertinent information. Payment can also be made on the site by using PayPal or your credit card.
We wish all of you and your loved ones a healthy and happy New Year.
