THE BATTLES OF CAPTAIN WHITE IN THE FIGHT FOR SOUTHAMPTON: 1870 TO 1893
11:00 am
Chabad of Southampton Jewish Center, 214 Hill Street, Southampton, New York. 11968.
Southampton residents pass by Captain White’s home, the modest farm house located at the corner of Main Street and Jagger Lane, at least once a day but know little of the dynamic personality who lived within. After Captain White retired from 30 years on whaling ships he became a tireless fighter for the rights of local farmers and fishermen who were battling large landowners wanting to build hotels, casinos, race tracks and factories on the ocean and bays. Southampton could easily have looked like Atlantic City today if it were not for this fearless man.
