Contra dancing is a traditional American social dance with roots in Ireland and Great Britain and has brought communities together for hundreds of years. The Long Island Traditional Music Association (LITMA) sponsors the dances and other activities featuring traditional and folk music. A Water Mill Traditional New England Barn Dance is held the first Saturday of each month from 8 to 11 p.m., at the Water Mill Community House on Montauk Highway. Going strong for over twenty years, the dance has an active community of ages eight to eighty. Regional live bands and callers lead every dance. All dances are taught and dress is casual. Refreshments are served.
