pup, left to die, behind the hedges, that cold, rainy night. Benji passed away of
kidney failure on Tuesday, May 20, 08’ at two in the afternoon. He went without any warning signs.
After second and third opinions from three different vets and after staying in the hospital for two
days with IV tubes up his legs due to dehydration, Cam and I knew it was time to put him down.
We did not want our beloved, Benji to spend his last few days all cooped up in a kennel and being
cared for by complete strangers. We wanted Benji to spend his remaining days in our home
surrounded by loved ones.
Benji loved to ride around time. We drove him for one last time to Hither Hills Beach, where he
enjoyed swimming and chasing seagulls. We also drove to Gosman’s Dock where he often
watched fishing, boats go by such as the Viking and the Lazy Bones. We passed by
the Montauk Point Lighthouse one last time as a family to take pictures for our yearly Christmas
card.
Benji had his appointment to be euthanized scheduled, but he went on his own terms. He died
In my arms while I was comforting him the day before. He took his last breath and said good-bye
to the both of us as if to say: “Thank you for loving me, Mommy and Daddy.” “ I’ll see you in heaven.”
Benji closed his big brown, eyes for good.
We buried Benji underneath two, newly , planted Montauk Daisy bushes with beach rocks all around
Plus a wooden dog sign that reads: “ A Spoiled Rotten Dog Lives Here” with his picture attached.
We love you Benji and we miss you terribly. Thank you for giving us thirteen, happy years!
