food, blankets, or toys to give to local shelters. Palmer Vineyard recently had a Spring
Mutts and Mimosas walk asking for similar items. The Hogs and Hotrods Rock The
Shelter had a car show, live music, vendors and a poker run at Eagle’s Landing,
Calverton Links for M.T.A.S. (Move The Animal Shelter).
Downtown Greenport is extremely dog-friendly. The park and adjacent beach
overlooking the marina is quite lovely. In Riverhead, the riverfront on Peconic is
especially picturesque, relaxing and peaceful. They welcome dogs as well.
There are restaurants that have outside seating and are pet-friendly (weather
permitting). They include Paganos, Andy’s Burgers and Rhumbline in Greenport.
Lobster Roll andTweed’s Buffalo Bar are in Riverhead. Love Lane Kitchen is in
Mattituck and Orient by the Sea in Orient Point. I look forward to other places I can find
and enjoy a fine meal with my best friend, Smokey.
There are so many local events that benefit the homeless animals on the east end
of L.I. and I plan to anticipate in as many as possible. It is so worthwhile a cause to
know you did something to help animals in need. I was given a blessing and enjoy
giving back, knowing my rescue pup will benefit in some way as well.
The 2012 Bark For Life of Riverhead was held at Martha Clara Vineyard on
May 6th . This event featured doggie contests, live music, a line dancing lesson, as
well as a walk, with or without dogs, and benefited the American Cancer Society. They
raised $25,000.00. On June 9th from10 a.m. tonoon is the Paws Across The Hamptons
Dog Walk that benefits the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation. They feature
contests, music and gift bags.
Thank you A.R.F., Petco, Martha Clara, The Feed Bag, Palmer Vineyard, and
M.T.A.S. (Move The Animal Shelter) in Riverhead for all your wonderful no or low-cost
events. We enjoy lovely Greenport, Orient, the Hamptons – all the way to Montauk with
the magnificent views and lighthouse.
I am truly home and Smokey and his four brothers are socialized, healthy and
happy as well. I support anything that can help the hundreds of L.I. pets that need a
forever home. Any small gift of time, money, dog and cat food, blankets, toys and
fundraising are greatly appreciated. Our east end animal shelters are A.R.F., Bideawee in
Westhampton,North ForkAnimal Welfare inPeconic,Kentin Calverton, Last Chance in
Southamptonand the Riverhead Animal Shelter. SAVES is the organization that helps
our cats and kittens.
It is a total joy spending time with your canine companion on such a beautiful
island and helping others.
We should as Ellen Degeneres says, “Be Kind To One Another.”
