During the last 34 years, Dan’s Papers has organized this popular 5K run on a course that takes the participants past acres of what was once largely potato farms but now comprises bucolic horse farms and high-end real estate South of the Highway in Bridgehampton. Known as one of the loveliest courses for an East End run, PotatoHampton holds a special place in the heart of local runners who have seen it transformed from a 10K that traversed the railroad tracks and Montauk Highway to the current 5K, which makes a loop along some of the most highly sought after street addresses in the Hamptons.

For the last couple of decades the race has been a 5K starting and ending at Militia Park on Ocean Road just south of Montauk Highway. It’s very popular Memorial Day Weekend time frame was changed a few years ago at the request of Southampton Town and to help ensure the safety of the runners, who could be challenged by Memorial Day Weekend traffic. The move to the first Saturday in June has allowed PotatoHampton to remain a staple for both local race enthusiasts and weekend visitors.

PotatoHampton was one of the first 5K runs to ever take place in the Hamptons and is known not only for its attractive course and local flavor, but for the fact that each year a local charity benefits from the funds raised thru PotatoHampton registration fees. Over the years monies have been donated from PotatoHampton to, among others, The Bridgehampton Child Care and Development Center, Southampton Animal Shelter and the American Heart Association. For 2012,

The PotatoHampton race is USATF Certified with awards for Top Male and Female overall, Top Male and Female in the age categories of 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+ and Top Male and Female Walkers.
